JOB SUMMARY: Kootenay Haven Transition House provides transitional housing and short-term support services, in a safe environment, to adult women and their children who have experienced or are at-risk of abuse, threats, or violence. A fundamental premise to service delivery is to respect women’s right to make choices based on their own understanding of their options, needs and goals. Service is provided on a highest-need first-served basis to women and their children fleeing domestic violence.

Specific service delivery includes empowering individuals by offering guidance, a safe space, essential resources to navigating challenging moments; respond to critical incidents; administer First Aid/CPR as needed; access to three nutritious meals per day, bedding, towels, essential toiletries, culturally specific items; use of laundry facilities; crisis intervention and referral support; local transportation if required (for medical legal, or social services appointments); accompaniment and advocacy support services; the provision of life skills development to women receiving services within the house; and a 24-hour staffed toll-free crisis line (Women’s Shelter and Help Line).

Kootenay Haven is a 24-hour 7 day per week operation with program staffing consisting of three shifts. Shifts are 10 hours in duration and full-time staff work 3 or 4 days per week, allowing ample rest days. Program staff have a combined role of supporting women and their children while in residence. The combined role of the workers allows staff to be responsive to changing dynamics of the residents.

If you’re ready to provide compassionate care and make an impact, we want to hear from you.
