Requirements
The Elk River Alliance is looking for a bottle sorter to assist with fundraising. This position would suit a local visitor or resident looking for supplemental income while supporting our watershed!

Location: Fernie, BC
Start date: Saturday, September 20th, 2025
Term: Ongoing year-round
Rate: 20$/hour wages & vehicle mileage reimbursed at 62 cents/km

Schedule: Each month, the bottle collector & sorter conducts the Elk River Alliance’s bottle drive, which involves the collection, sorting, counting and depositing of refundable beverage containers. Elk River Alliance’s bottle drive runs once per month from Saturday through Friday for 7 consecutive days each month, with each bottle drive requiring 10 to 14 hours to complete from Day 1 starting on Saturday through Day 7 ending on Friday, and is scheduled regularly throughout the year as follows:

• September 20th - September 26th
• October 18th - October 24th
• November 15th - November 21th
• December 13th - December 19th
• Repeating every 4 weeks

REQUIREMENTS:

• Class 5 driving license
• Access to Pick-up truck or spacious vehicle with cargo space - Note: vehicle access is a huge plus but could also consider someone without vehicle access

Duties RESPONSIBILITIES:
:
• Retrieve and sort refundable beverage containers from the wooden donation bin at the Fernie Waste Transfer Station, during their operating hours
• Count and deposit refundable beverage containers at the Fernie Return-it Bottle Depot, during their operating hours
• Carry a positive outlook and attitude towards volunteers whenever volunteers sign up to help, through working alongside volunteers to complete the work steps and sharing the workload
• Adhere to guidelines, instructions and policies of the Fernie Waste Transfer Station and Fernie Return-it Bottle Depot
• Adhere to safe work practices for compliance with the policies of the Elk River Alliance and WorkSafe BC
