The Grower Assistant, under the direction of the Head Grower, will primarily be responsible to prepare soil, plant bulbs, seeds, and cuttings; graft and bud plants; and transplant seedlings and rooted cuttings. This position will prepare seedlings in greenhouses by planting and prepping them for outdoor transplant. This role will also maintain plants by planting, transplanting, cultivating, irrigating, and pruning. The Grower Assistant must possess a horticulture degree and two plus years of progressive experience in a related field. This is a full-time year-round position, with benefits after a probationary period. Key Qualifications: • Leadership Skills: Experience managing or supervising teams in a horticultural setting, with a knack for motivating and mentoring staff. • Plant Health Knowledge: Strong understanding of plant nutrition, pest and disease management, and crop production. • Flexibility & Adaptability: Willingness to pivot between tasks and support multiple sections based on seasonal needs. • Problem-Solving Mindset: Proactive in identifying and addressing crop or labor challenges. • Physical Stamina: Able to lift up to 50 pounds and work in varied weather conditions, including evenings and weekends as needed. • Tech Savvy: Comfortable using technology to manage schedules, track data, and optimize efficiency. • Team-Oriented: A collaborative spirit with a focus on contributing to the team’s success and fostering a positive work environment. Job Requirements • A diploma or equivalent in Horticulture or Agriculture, with 2+ years of proven hands-on growing experience in nurseries, greenhouses, or similar environments. • In-depth knowledge of plant growth, vegetable production practices, crop inputs, and marketplace conditions. • Solid understanding of horticultural techniques • Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands • Ability to work individually as well as part of a team • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing • Demonstrated time management skills • High flexibility with strong interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse environment • High level of integrity and work ethic • Strong knowledge of laws applicable to farming operations, safety regulations, and farm support provisions • Valid driver's license with a clean driving abstract Benefits: • Dental care • Extended health care Flexible language requirement: • French not required Schedule: • Day shift • Monday to Friday • Weekends as needed Ability to commute/relocate: • Creston, BC: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred) Experience: • horticulture: 3 years (required) Licence/Certification: • Driving Licence (required) Work Location: In person |
