This position has three parts to it so when you put them together a visitor’s experience will be enjoyable and fun so guests leave knowing more history than they thought they would know. Part 1 will involve the day-to-day tasks: – opening and closing buildings daily, – writing daily reports, – handling the admission donations, – mild cleaning of buildings, – learning local history, – attending weekly meetings to give status reports and raise questions, – other small tasks that may arise. Part 2 will entail interacting with visitors: – Welcome visitors upon their arrival, – listen to stories they want to share, – answer questions visitors may have as they tour through the buildings, – record statistics on the number of visitors. Part 3 contains the FUN with children and families: – Using some past programs, the candidate will organize, set up, execute and clean-up activities that can be held once a week or on a drop-in basis. – Create a schedule of activities suitable for all ages, – promote the activities through social media, handouts, etc., – give instructions for participants to do the activities. Additional things will be part of the job posting: – helping with school visits in June, – help with daycare visits during July and August, Skills and Responsibilities: Essential skills for the job: -are between 16 and 30 years of age inclusively at the start of employment -a high school, college, CEGEP or university student -Be a self-starter, the person will be required to work on their own project with minimal help but lots of support -They should be personable but being comfortable talking to people is not required -Candidates should be willing to come to work and share ideas without criticism -Be open to taking directions and trying different things -Be part of a team that wants to make things interesting and fun -Be able to work by themselves if other staff have to step out -Have to work weekends with Tuesday and Wednesday off -Be willing to repeat oneself on the same topic to different people -Candidate should be able to lift 20lbs., walk up stair repeatedly and walk short distances. Desired skills of the candidate: -Have an interest in local history -Willing to work inside and outside in nice weather -Work with children ages 6 to 12 -Wanting to learn new things including how to talk to strangers -Willing to try organizing fun activities for all ages Please apply with a cover letter and resume.
