Thistle Farm is currently seeking dedicated field labourer for the upcoming season! This is a fantastic opportunity to dive into the world of agriculture. As a farm hand, you will play an essential role in the day-to-day operations, gaining hands-on experience in various farming practices and contributing to our farm's success. Job Details: • Reports To: Field Manager, and Farm Hand Leads • Employment Type: Hourly, overtime-exempt, statutory holiday pay exempt • Schedule: Seasonal position, 20-45 hours per week, April to November, shifts start early morning in hot weather • Start Date: Between mid-may and June • Location: Wynndel, BC • Compensation: $18- $20 per hour, depending on experience • Benefits: Farm stand/market discounts, access to produce second Preferred Qualifications: • Previous experience in organic farming is a plus but not required • Physically fit and able to perform repetitive tasks, bend for extended periods, lift up to 20kg, and work in different weather conditions • Positive attitude and strong work ethic, especially during long, physically demanding workdays • Able to take direction, learn quickly, and ask questions when clarity is needed • Comfortable working both independently and in a team setting • High attention to detail and a commitment to quality work • Flexible and adaptable to changing work conditions, including extended hours, weekends, or holiday shifts when needed • Reliable transportation is required • Basic English language skills are necessary To apply, please email your cover letter and resume to thistlefarmbc@hotmail.com |
| Duties |
Key Responsibilities: • Crop Management: Participate in tasks such as seeding, transplanting, weeding, and general crop care (including irrigation, pruning, and trellising) using both hand tools and small equipment • Harvest & Post-Harvest Work: Assist in efficiently harvesting crops, cleaning and sanitizing tools, and preparing produce by rinsing, bunching, and packaging • Farm Safety: Adhere to farm safety protocols, including food safety, organic certification. • Communication: Work closely with farm managers and supervisors to discuss daily tasks, priorities, and any changes in plans • Market Support: Assist with attending and working at farmer's markets as needed • Additional Tasks: Take on various farm-related responsibilities to support the overall farm operations |
