POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Job Requirements: 1. Possess a valid B.C. Class 2 (minimum) Driver’s License. The ideal candidate will have a clean Driver’s Abstract. 2. Must attend training and safety programs as directed by the Facilities and Operations Manager (including First Aid Certification). 3. Ability to act with authority, tact and diplomacy. 4. Ability to work effectively with Yaqan Nukiy School students, staff and parents, and maintain order on the bus. 5. Must have understanding and knowledge of safe work practices and health regulations. 6. Must have a clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES AT YAQAN NUKIY SCHOOL: Bus Drivers Bus Driver (daily route) Two Bus Drivers (on call) POSITION SUMMARY Yaqan Nukiy School is looking for qualified candidates to work as school bus drivers for the 2025-2026 school year. Please note that driving bus requires skill, tact, professionalism and a keen interest in working with the students, parents, and staff of Yaqan Nukiy School. REPORTING This position reports to the Yaqan Nukiy School Principal and the Lower Kootenay Band Facilities and Operations Manager. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Applicants for the bus driver position must possess a valid B.C. Class 2 (minimum) Driver's License. The driver will be responsible for ensuring the vehicle is safe to operate by completing and documenting a pre-trip inspection. The driver will also be responsible for the safe transportation of students to and from school during the regular school week. The driver may also be asked to transport students, staff, and parents to and from special events or field trips. Safety is the primary consideration of the job. The bus driver is responsible for obeying traffic and safety regulations while driving in a variety of road and weather conditions, and ensuring that the actions of the passengers do not create a hazardous situation. Work is generally of a routine nature with established routes, however, additional trips both within and outside the Creston Valley may occur. |
