CVFF is a non-profit organization operating in the Columbia Valley from Canal Flats to Spillimacheen. Our mission is to support local food from farm to plate through education, collaboration, and advocacy. Our current focus is on reducing food waste by recovering surplus food from retail food outlets and farms; then redistributing it to those in need. We will work closely with other community organizations, local farmers, food producers, and food retail outlets to ensure the accessibility of nutritious food for all.

We are seeking a motivated and organized individual to take our vision forward.

Position Summary:
The Nourish Columbia Valley Food Recovery Coordinator will play a crucial role in establishing and managing CVFF's food recovery program. This individual will be responsible for developing and maintaining community partnerships that emphasize and enhance the collective capacity of individuals, organizations, and communities within the Columbia Valley to create a more just, equitable, and inclusive food system. The goal of this role will be to coordinate the collection, processing, and distribution of surplus food to vulnerable community members.

The coordinator will work closely with local businesses, institutions, First Nations, and social service agencies to ensure the program operates efficiently and effectively.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Design and Development:
-Conduct a comprehensive needs assessment to identify gaps in food distribution and service within the Columbia Valley. Use data to identify gaps in food access and distribution, tailoring the program to specific community needs.
-Identify vulnerable populations in the community, who could benefit from the program.
-Develop a detailed plan for the food recovery program, outlining goals, objectives, and strategies.
-Establish clear guidelines and procedures for food collection, sorting, processing, and distribution.
-Investigate grant opportunities and complete grant applications and reporting.

Stakeholder Engagement:
-Liaise with local businesses, including grocery stores, restaurants, and institutions, to encourage their participation in the program.
-Build relationships with local First Nations communities and social service agencies to understand their needs and coordinate food delivery.
-Collaborate with other food recovery projects in British Columbia to share information and best practices.
-Work closely with the Columbia Valley Food and Farm board members.

Volunteer Management:
-Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers to assist with food sorting, processing, and distribution.
-Develop and implement processes for documenting food intake and redirection.
-Raise awareness of the food recovery program within the community through various channels, including social media, public events, and partnerships with local organizations.
-Work collaboratively to identify vulnerable populations and ensure efficient distribution of recovered food.

Program Evaluation:
-Monitor and evaluate the program's effectiveness, identifying areas for improvement and making necessary adjustments.
-Compliance: Ensure that all food recovery activities comply with relevant food safety regulations and guidelines.
-Prepare regular reports on program activities and outcomes.

Systems Development
-Develop and maintain digital data management systems.
-Creation of succession planning for the role and project deliverables with support from the Nourish Columbia Valley Steering Committee.
-Communication
-Shape and amplify the voice of the program, by crafting communications that foster excitement and engagement in the community.

Qualifications:
-Strong organizational and time management skills.
-Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
-Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
-Experience in food handling or food service preferred.
-Knowledge of food safety regulations and guidelines.
-Passion for food sustainability and community service.
-Valid BC Driver’s License

Degree relevant to the role
-Bachelor's degree preferred but not required

Experience
-Minimum 3 to 5 years with a combination of/or some experience in areas such as project management, community engagement, retail/purchasing, fundraising/non-profit development with a track record of successful results and proven ability to build and maintain projects as well as relationships.
-Strong knowledge of Columbia Valley local food sector and retail environment
-Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with partners, internal stakeholders, team members and volunteers.
-Excellent presentation and negotiation skills.
-Strong general computer skills with proficiency in MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook)
-Experience working in a team environment across multiple stakeholder groups.
-Ability to effectively coordinate multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities.
