Qualifications: A post-secondary certificate, degree or diploma in a related field (career or employment development, vocational rehabilitation, social work, psychology, sociology, human services, counselling, education or human resources management) preferred, or equitable experience and education to execute the functions of the position. Valid BC driver’s license and access to a vehicle A clean criminal record check for the vulnerable sector Self-motivated, confident, and able to work independently Experience working with persons with multiple barriers Proven ability to deliver material in a flexible manner with a deep appreciation and understanding of different learning styles Excellent conflict management skills and strong ability to work well under pressure Excellent communication skills – verbal, written and electronic Excellent sales and customer care skills including cold calling and relationship management Strong active listening, motivational, and coaching skills Strong organizational and time management abilities including proficiency multi-tasking, prioritizing tasks, and making impromptu adjustments to work plans A well-developed understanding of the local and regional employer community and a good understanding of the local labour market Sensitivity to employer and job-seeker confidentiality and ability to adhere to privacy and security regulations and protocols How is remuneration decided? Kootenay Employment Services offers opportunities for staff in this department to increase their wages with a competency based model. Most staff starting this role do not have previous experience in employment related facilitation (this does not include experience in teaching and presenting), nor working with the specific demographic of clients we serve. We provide training to those with we hire who have core skills to ensure these competencies can be gained. As you grow in this position you can see clearly in the model, your level of pay, and as your required skills rise, so too can your wage. Most staff commence on $26.60 per hour, with benefits starting after 3 months, and after 1 year vacation entitlement starts to increase. If however you have experience in employment facilitation and working with diverse and highly barriered client groups, or employment counselling with this demographic; we may consider commencing you at a higher wage, and this will be determined using the competency model. Duties |
The Program: Connect will serve 100 clients over a 3-year duration, who have two or more barriers to employment. The program is designed with a high degree of flexibility and accommodation and includes holistic supports to meet unique needs. Clients typically participate through 8-week, in-person program, however, depending on their unique barriers they can be provided through individual or virtual programming. After the 8-week program, clients will be supported until they are placed in an employment setting, during which time they can utilize on-the-job coaching until sustainable. This program includes components to support clients who are on the continuum towards employment and is designed for our rural service area. The Position: The position of Job Coach / Facilitator - Connect Program, is a regional, fixed term contract. Lets talk about what this is position is responsible for: Program Administration Collaborate with the LEAD team and other KES staff Oversee participant recruitment and selection Manage project record-keeping and reporting Coordination of program wage subsidy process Facilitation: Deliver workshops, both virtual and in person, in a flexible manner that adjusts both content and approach in response to the needs of each participant Gather and develop training materials including electronic interactive presentations Collaborate with other KES staff and project partners to ensure seamless delivery Employer Relations Establish and maintain positive, constructive working relationships with a diverse network of local employers for the purpose of achieving and enhancing program outcomes and participant goals Contact employers to strategize placement options and direct market specific participants Advocacy of clients with multiple barriers Maintain regular contact with the employer community to uncover placement possibilities Work actively with clients to approach employers, this includes making phone calls to employers, negotiating with employers to ‘job carve’ based on a client’s skill set. Arrange and attend interviews for barriered clients as needed Assist participants to negotiate hours of work, working conditions, duties, etc. Job Coaching Facilitators may work with clients on-the-job to determine how they are performing, speaking with the employer if necessary and supporting the client to develop and maintain tools to be successful (on-the-job coaching). Develop a rapport with the employer and co-workers Develop an understanding of the requirements of the job and the natural supports available to the worker Perform task analysis of each task as needed and provide guidance to client Identify job site modifications needed and provide these recommendations to Program Coordinator then implement where necessary Comply with the policies and procedures of the job site Continually assess the vocational, social, communication and independent skills required by the specific job setting Slowly fade out services as the client’s independence and capabilities increase and natural supports take over Assist clients and/or the employer to resolve any issue that may impact the client’s ability to maintain employment after job coaching services have completed |
